EU lauds Malawi electoral handling

European Union Team Leader in Social Sectors, Michelle Crimell, says Malawi is doing much better in handling elections.

Crimell made the remarks on Thursday in Lilongwe after the Nation Initiatives for Civic Education (NICE) shared a report on the observations made during a visit to South Africa’s elections held on 29 May this year.

She also tipped electoral stakeholders in the country to learn from the positives from South Africa’s recent General Elections for a better 2025 election.

NICE Trust Board Chairperson, Lingalireni Mihowa, said there are several areas to learn from despite some notable challenges that were also there in South Africa’s elections.

“There was a large number of youthful voters which we found out was a result of information availability on social media and also there was a serious consideration to the elderly and people living with disabilities,” said Mihowa.
