Police in Lilongwe have arrested 32-year-old Aubrey Madzinkusamba for allegedly attempting to murder his two biological children by throwing them into a 30-meter-deep well following disagreements with his wife at Matapa Village in Likuni.
Lilongwe Police’s publicist, Hastings Chigalu, reported that the children, an 8-year-old girl and a 4-year-old boy, miraculously survived a three-day stay in the well.
According to Chigalu, Madzinkusamba had agreed to divorce his wife but feared losing custody of the children, prompting him to plan their murder so that neither parent would have them.
The children were rescued by Chinsapo Police and well-wishers and are currently receiving medical treatment at Kamuzu Central Hospital.
Aubrey Madzinkusamba, from Kasiya Village, Traditional Authority Khongoni in Lilongwe District, will soon appear in court to face charges of attempted murder.
