Malawi envoy optimistic about China-Africa summit

Chintendza – The President’s participation is crucial for key outcomes

Malawi Ambassador to China, Allan Chintedza has expressed optimism over the outcomes of the  Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) summit that will take place in Beijing, China this week.

Chintedza said Malawi stands to benefit from agreements reached at the summit following the China – Africa Cooperation framework’s expiry in 2021.

He said Malawi will take advantage of the discussions to highlight the country’s plans in Agriculture, Mining, and Tourism as key priorities as Malawi seeks to diversify the economy to spar development.

“We have to make sure that our interests as Malawi are agreed at this particular summit,” said Chintedza.

The Malawi envoy also said it is vital that President Chakwera accepted the invitation from Chinese President, Xi Jinping, as it will ensure that Malawi has a voice in the proceedings of the summit which will decide the way forward in China-Africa relations.

President Chakwera who arrives in China on Monday is expected to hold bilateral talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping and also hold meetings with various industry captains and partners.
