Chitipa Lions Club and Mzuzu Lions Club, through their ‘SightFirst Project’, have donated K19 million slit lamp machine to Chitipa District Hospital to help detect and diagnose eye diseases on patients at the district’s health facility.
This is a machine that helps illuminate and magnify the front part of the eye to help detect and diagnose eye diseases.
Chitipa Lions Club president, Fidelis Kambalame, said his club decided to donate the machine to help reach out to many people with eye health care services.
Chitipa District Medical Officer, Dr. Victor Matumbo, applauded Chitipa and Mzuzu Lions Clubs for the donation, saying as a district, they have stayed for a number of years without the equipment, which saw them referring patients to Mzuzu Central Hospital to get the service.
The SightFirst project is funded by Lions Club International in conjunction with Latter Saints.
