An 84-year-old woman, Rose Shaibu, has died after the wall of her house collapsed on her. The incident followed heavy rains and strong winds in the area of Senior Chief Kalumba of Lilongwe District.
The house of the deceased is one of over 300 houses and some schools that have been affected by the adverse weather pattern.
Group Village Head Mtambo described the incident as unfortunate, describing Shaibu as a well of wisdom for both young and older generations.
Kang’oma and Chagogo primary schools in Kalumba area have also been affected.
Headteacher at Chagago Primary School, Mark Chilore, said the situation is not conducive for writing exams, which the learners are set to take.
During the onset of the rainy season, the hostile weather has damaged infrastructure in Districts of Kasungu, Neno, Balaka and other places.
