Habitat for Humanity advocates Disaster-Resilient construction

Habitat for Humanity, a local NGO, says there is need to train communities in building strong and resilient structures such as houses that can withstand attacks from natural disasters.

Disaster Risk Reduction and Response Coordinator, Annie Maduka, made the remarks during community sensitisation through drama groups at Group Village Headman Tchereni, Traditional Authority Mlolo in Nsanje District.

She said community sensitisation is very crucial in the area as there are a lot of construction activities following relocation of communities from flood-prone area of Makhanga.

Group Village Head Tchereni hailed the initiative, describing it as timely.

The campaign also took place in the area of group village heads Sambani and Mwanavumbe in the same area of Traditional Authority Mlolo.

Nsanje is one of the districts in Malawi which are prone to natural disasters.
