Ultra poor households targeted in Mchinjii with lean season response

Department of Disaster Management Affairs (DOdMA) is distributing maize to communities in Mchinji District to help them through the lean period.

Each household will be receiving a bag of maize for the next four months as part of the 2024/25 National Lean Season Food Insecurity Response Programme.

Mchinji District Disaster Risk Management Officer, Jonathan Kapatsa, said on Monday that the aid targets ultra-poor households, starting with those on the social cash transfer programme.

Elisy Masulani from Saili Village Traditional Authority Nyoka said she was grateful for the aid she has received from DoDMA and said she would now be able to have proper meals.

Alick Makiyi, a committee member from the Masegwe cluster in the same area, also expressed his gratitude to DOdMA for the relief food items, and a total of 136 households from TA Nyoka received their bag of maize.
