1150 metric tons of rice from India arrives in Malawi

A total of 38 containers containing about 1150 metric tonnes of rice from India to Nacala port have arrived at Kanengo Railway Station in Lilongwe.

The rice is part of the humanitarian assistance by the Indian Government to the Malawi Government through DoDMA.

Nacala Logistics’ Central Region Marketing Officer, Madalitso Kapito, applauded the collaboration with the Indian High Commission, highlighting the successful problem-free transportation of the containers.

“We have started transporting a significant amount of goods and we believe this will contribute effectively to the country’s economic growth as the railway transportation is cost-effective,” said Kapito.

According to Nacala Logistics, their trains have the capacity to carry about 100,000 metric tonnes of goods in a year.
