President Dr Lazarus Chakwera and the First Lady, Madam Monica Chakwera, have expressed sadness over the passing of veteran broadcaster and diplomat, Lucius Chikuni.
Chikuni died on Monday in Blantyre after a short illness.
In a statement from the State House, Dr Chakwera said Chikuni’s life should be celebrated as he dedicated his life to the service of the country.
Chairperson for the Media Institute of Southern Africa (MISA) Malawi Chapter, Golden Matonga, said Malawi’s media fraternity will miss the veteran as he had worked hard for the growth and development of the media sector.
Chikuni was among those who transitioned the then Federal Broadcasting Corporation to Radio Malawi at the attainment of self-rule in 1963 and to Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) where he also served as its Director General.
