Funeral ceremony of former Minister of Education and member of Parliament for Rumphi, Manuel Mwang’onga Mkandawire is underway at Mwang’onga Village in Sub Traditional Authority (STA) Chisovya in Rumphi.
He died on Monday at Wezi Medical Centre in Mzuzu at the age of 97.
He was appointed Minister of Education in 1978 and also served as Member of Parliament for Rumphi East and Central Constituencies from 1978 to 1994.
He is survived by two children.
He will buried with military honors as directed by President Lazarus Chakwera.
Speaker of Parliament Catherine Gotani Hara, Minister of Youth and Sports, Uchizi Mkandawire are also in attendance.
