Man drowns in Dwambadzi River

A 31-year-old man has died in Nkhata-Bay District after being swept away by running water in Dwambazi River.

Kondwani James, Nkhatabay Police Station Public Relations Officer, has identified the deceased as Isaac Phiri of Foma Village, T/A Zilakomo in Nkhata-Bay District.

According to James, Phiri went to a nearby shop to buy groceries on the other side of Dwambazi River and in the course of trying to cross the river, he was swept away by fast-running water and drowned.

His body was found floating in the same river on Friday, April 19, 2024.

An autopsy conducted at Liwuzi Health Centre revealed he died due to suffocation secondary to drowning.
