Dr Chakwera made the remarks at Area 18 during a stopover from Kamuzu International Airport in Lilongwe on Saturday.

Addressing a large crowd in Area 18, President Chakwera stressed the importance of unity among Malawians and reiterated that democracy guarantees the freedom of association.

He emphasised that no Malawian should be harassed for exercising this fundamental right.

The Malawi leader emphasised the need for unity in the country despite political differences.

Dr Chakwera also appealed to Malawians to keep working hard in various development endeavours.

Welcoming the President, Secretary General of the Malawi Congress Party, Richard Chimwendo Banda, thanked Dr Chakwera for the development projects that his administration is implementing in Malawi including modern roads which have lifted the face of the capital Lilongwe.
