Malawi Defence Force (MDF) and Lilongwe City Council (LCC) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the construction and rehabilitation of selected roads in Lilongwe City.
Speaking during the signing, MDF Commander General George Alexander Jafu Jnr said the agreement reflects the role the MDF plays beyond the battlefield, as well as the trust that exists between the institution and the public.
Jafu added that the MDF will execute the works outlined in the MoU with high quality standards, discipline and within the agreed timeframe.
Lilongwe City Council Chief Executive Officer Clement Stambuli said the MoU will run for two years, subject to renewal.
Stambuli said the project includes the construction and rehabilitation of the road connecting Area 47 to the Bingu National Stadium through the Lingadzi River, as well as the stretch from Capital Hotel roundabout to the State House gate.
He noted that the council recognises the MDF’s capacity and expertise in construction, expressing confidence that the partnership will help improve road infrastructure in the city.
The MDF is expected to carry out the works through its Engineering Construction Company Limited (ECCL).
