Man sentenced to 14 years with hard labour for defilement

The First Grade Magistrate’s Court in Mzimba has sentenced 38-year-old Aaron Ngwenya to 14 years imprisonment with hard labour for defiling a seven-year-old child at Mqocha in Mzimba.

“Presenting the facts in court, on Monday, the State Prosecutor Sub Inspector Pachalo Nyirenda said Ngwenya on October 19, 2023, lured three minors to his garden under the pretence of fruit picking,” said Macfarlen Mseteka, the Public Relations Officer for Jenda Police.

“While two of the children diverged to pick wild fruits, Ngwenya took one girl to the garden, where he sexually assaulted the child, and was eventually caught by villagers and the child’s mother.”

According to Mseteka, Prosecutor Nyirenda argued for a stringent sentence due to the seriousness of the crime and its prevalence in the area.
