Gwengwe hails AVC as an economic driver

Minister of Trade Sosten Gwengwe has lauded the Agriculture Value Chain (AVC) as a significant job creator and a catalyst for boosting the country’s export earnings aligning with President Chakwera’s vision of economic transformation.

Established in 2019, AVC Limited, which produces Purola Cooking Oil, is a collaborative venture between Export Trading Group (ETG) and Parrogate Group Limited.

Gwengwe emphasized the importance of transitioning from a primarily trading nation to one focused on production and exportation.

He stressed the necessity of creating jobs and generating foreign exchange, highlighting the crucial role of partnerships such as AVC Limited in achieving these goals.

Rajneesh Dabral, AVC Limited’s Country Manager, expressed optimism that AVC would contribute to reducing the country’s reliance on imported edible oil.

Malawi currently imports 70 percent of its cooking oil from neighbouring countries such as Mozambique, Zambia, and South Africa.
