Youths urged to boost development through innovation

Bright Chidzumeni, Save the Children Innovations Manager has called on the youth in the country to create more innovations to drive the country’s development.

He made these remarks on Friday in Lilongwe during presentations by young innovators under the Future M project, a collaboration between Save the Children and Next Gen Labs, which aims to connect innovators with investors.

Chidzumeni said Next Gen Labs are not only connecting innovators and investors but also protecting the interests of the innovators.

As part of the initiative, two standout innovators were selected to present their ideas to potential investors.

The innovators include Staff Nyoni, who developed the “Blind Classroom” system to help visually impaired students access educational materials, and Aubrey Kachinjika, who created a flood detection device to warn communities at risk of flooding.

Nyoni expressed optimism, pointing out that with adequate resources, his system could “level the ground for everyone,” including those who are visually impaired.
