Truck drivers’ strike ends

Minister of Information and Digitalisation, Moses Kunkuyu, has announced that representatives of truck drivers and all stakeholders at the mediation talks at Capital Hill have agreed to end the truck drivers’ strike, which began on Wednesday.

Kunkuyu said that the main issue was the noncompliance by some transporters in implementing the gazetted K234,000 salary.

During the mediation meeting at Capital Hill, it was revealed that while some employers had been honouring the salary, others had not, leading to dissatisfaction among the drivers.

Kunkuyu also mentioned that a taskforce has been established to ensure compliance with the agreed-upon salary.

Regarding the delays and harassment at the Immigration Department when applying for new passports, the department has agreed to start giving truck drivers the necessary attention.

Frank Banda, Spokesperson for the Transporters Association, expressed satisfaction with the outcome of the government’s mediation.
