President Dr Lazarus Chakwera has stressed the need for financing facilities that are more robust, inclusive, and humane help boost global development in developing countries.
President Chakwera made the remarks on Sunday, in the United States of America, during the second day plenary session of the Summit of the Future which is being held under the theme “Multilateral solutions for a better tomorrow”.
The Malawi leader highlighted the need for leaders to reflect on the extra gear from now and 2030 to sustain the hope of young people and build sustainable solutions for the future generation.
“This Summit of the Future is not about us but about the next generation and their children and we must make this pact of the future without rigging it with the prejudices of yesterday and the conflicts of today,” Chakwera said.
He also indicated the significance of shifting from the provision of aid to the cultivation of self-sufficiency through robust private sector engagement.
However, President Chakwera expressed concern with conflicts around the world that remain unresolved, saying there is need to return to a rules-based approach that seeks peaceful resolutions to disputes, for it is evident that the current multilateral system has proven inadequate in resolving conflicts.
The President also indicated that Malawi recognises the global utility of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in terms of improving productivity and decision-making processes.
He said the Least Developed Countries (LDCs) are faced with significant challenges in coping with the unprecedented technological advancement.
President Chakwera said that it is it imperative that the global world makes deliberate efforts to improve the capacity of LDCs to reduce the digital divide.
