The Department of Fisheries in Nkhatabay has burned 60,000 illegal fishing gears seized from artisanal fishermen in the district.
District Commissioner Rodgers Newa said the move aims to enforce laws and promote the use of fishing gear that protects aquatic life.
Ripple Africa Country Director, False Ngwira, expressed support for the initiative, stressing the importance of preserving fish stocks for future generations.
The illegal fishing gears were confiscated from all fishing beaches in Nkhatabay with assistance from Ripple Africa.
