Kanengo Police Station says it has recorded a 22% decline in crime during the first six months of 2026, with reported cases dropping from over 1,000 in 2025 to 779 in 2026.
Officer-in-Charge for Kanengo Police Station, Dan Sauteni, disclosed the figures during the Station Executive Forum at Area 25 in Lilongwe on Friday.
Sauteni, however, lamented that despite the decrease in crime, the station has been operating under inadequate funding, a shortage of vehicles, increasing traffic management demands due to kabaza operators and challenges in community policing for the 11 police units that the station is in charge of.
He also called for the construction of more police units to bring police services closer to communities.
Councillor Ovaton Kafansiyanji, representing the Lilongwe City Council chairperson, commended the station’s performance and pledged CDF support to build two more police units.
He also said the council will engage authorities to help with the station’s operational challenges.
Kanengo Police Station provides policing services to a population of over 400,000 people through its 11 police units.
