Sugarcane lorry overturns at Makande turn-off

Three people, including a driver, have escaped with minor injuries after a lorry they were travelling in overturned at Makande turn off along Midima road.

The lorry, a Hino, ferrying sugarcane, was on its way to Blantyre from Mulanje District.

Speaking to MBC Digital, the driver, Given Simenti, said upon reaching Makande, one of the back tyres lost its studs (nuts), causing the rim to break off from the lorry and it lost balance and overturned.

He thanked God for saving them, pointing out that all of them had their seatbelts on.

Meanwhile, people who are helping the driver to offload the sugarcane are equally quenching their thirst from the stuff and the two passengers have since been taken to Nguludi Hospital for check-up.
