Australian government says it will continue supporting initiatives that aim at transforming the lives of rural communities in the country.
Doreen Hanner, Second Secretary for the Australian High Commission to Malawi made the remarks in Traditional Authority Kanduku in Mwanza after touring a five year project funded by the Australian government through the Catholic Development Commission in Malawi-CADECOM.
The project which will run up to 2028, among others, provides local farmers with new farming technology for food security and the re-aforestation drive aimed at dealing with effects of climate change.
The Australian government allocates $120,000 annually to support this initiative.
During the visit, Hanner commended CADECOM for using the funds for their intended purposes.
Father Valeriano Mtseka, Secretary General of the Episcopal Conference of Malawi — who accompanied the delegation, advised beneficiaries of the project to apply the knowledge gained to become self reliant after the project’s completion.
