Scorchers fall again to South Africa

Malawi National Women’s Football Team, Scorchers, have suffered their second consecutive defeat to South Africa, losing 2-1 in a friendly match that was played at Lucas Moripe Stadium, South Africa.

Malawi took the lead in the 58th minute through Vanessa Chikupira, before Banyana Banyana responded with an equaliser from Hilda Magaia in the 75th minute.

The winning goal came three minutes before the final whistle from Amogelang Motau.

In the first friendly played on Saturday, Malawi lost 3-0 to South Africa.

The Scorchers are using these friendly matches to prepare for the final round of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) qualifiers against Angola, scheduled for October.

Malawi faced South Africa without several key players, including Temwa and Tabitha Chawinga, Rose Kabzere, and Faith Chimzimu.
