Former Director General of the Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC), Dr Benson Tembo, has finally received his prestigious MISA Malawi Lifetime Achiever Award for his significant contribution to the media and broadcasting industry in Malawi.
Receiving the award in Blantyre, Tembo dished out tips to journalists, pointing out that honesty, integrity, and diligence are key to their success and that of the profession.
One of Tembo’s notable achievements was championing the digital migration project in Malawi.
Under his leadership, Malawi successfully transitioned from analog to digital broadcasting, ushering in a new era of enhanced audiovisual quality, wider coverage, and improved viewer experience.
Tembo was the first director general of Television Malawi (TVM) from 2012 to 2015 before it was merged with MBC Radio to become MBC.
He also worked with MACRA from 2015 to 2021 as Technical Advisor on Digital Migration.
