Government has applauded Lusubilo Community Care Organisation for initiating training of caregivers as one way of promoting early childhood development (ECD) in Chitipa District and the northern region.
Chief Child Affairs Officer in the Ministry of Gender, Martha Chiwanda, made the remarks during the presentation of early childhood development certificates to 40 caregivers, which took place on Friday in Chitipa district.
Chiwanda said the training was very important as caregivers have also acquired knowledge and skills on how to handle children including those with disabilities so that every child has the necessary support in ECD.
Lusubilo Orphan and Vulnerable Children Officer, Wisdom Kayange, said they decided to conduct a two-week training in order to impart caregivers with appropriate knowledge and skills on handling children based on ECD principles.
“We expect that these caregivers will deliver the knowledge and skills to the children, fellow caregivers and their entire communities so that children’s rights and health are well protected and promoted,” Kayange said.
One of the trained caregivers, Catherine Mshali from Tichepetse CBCC of Junju CBO in Rumphi district said that the training was very beneficial as they have gained recommended knowledge and skills on how to handle children.
Among the 40 trained caregivers, 33 were females and 7 were males. The caregivers are from Chitipa, Karonga and Rumphi districts.
