President Dr Lazarus Chakwera has urged the international community to assist in investigating the plane crash that claimed the lives of Vice President Dr Saulos Chilima and eight others in Chikangawa on Monday.
He appealed for help, recognising that many countries possess the technical expertise and resources necessary to aid in a thorough and effective investigation.
Dr Chakwera was speaking at Kamuzu Palace during an audience with over 20 heads of mission who condoled him, the government and Malawians over the tragic deaths.
The Malawi leader expressed gratification over the overwhelming outpouring of sympathy and described it as a testament to the profound impact the late Dr Chilima had on people.
He said Chilima has left an indelible legacy of energetic and active patriotism and dedication to public service and to Malawi’s welfare.
Nancy Saungwema, Dean of the Diplomats and Ambassador of Zimbabwe said most countries are willing to assist with the inquest.
Dr Chilima and the others were killed in a plane crash, which failed to land at Mzuzu Airport due to bad weather on Sunday 9th June 2024 and he will be laid to rest on Monday next week at his home village in Ntcheu.
