Chairperson of the Mchinji District Disability Forum, Florence Mbekeyani, has urged all eligible persons with disabilities who were not registered in the recent national ID outreach registration exercise to ensure they get registered in the ongoing mop-up registration exercise.
Mbekeyani described the registration exercise as a great opportunity since it has been taken closer to communities where people with disabilities stay.
She added that the registration is a necessity for them to have a Malawi National ID, which would help in having them considered for social protection programmes like social cash transfer and to vote for leaders of their choice.
The National Registration Bureau (NRB) is currently conducting the mop-up exercise across the country, including Mchinji, which will have nine phases.
NRB Principal Secretary, Mphatso Sambo said during the mop-up registration exercise, the bureau will also be distributing National IDs to all citizens who registered during the national outreach registration exercise as well as those who registered previously but have not yet received their cards.
