Leaders in institutions across Malawi have been challenged to move beyond titles and authority and focus on creating clarity, mobilising teams and delivering measurable results that drive national growth.
The call was made by the Chief Executive Officer of EmpowerX Consult Limited, Nelson Mkwende, during the inaugural “Nexus Leadership Summit” held from 31 August to 2 September 2026 in Salima District.
The Summit was organised by EmpowerX Consult in collaboration with The Redpoint Group of South Africa under the theme “Connecting Vision, Strategy and Impact.”
Mkwende noted that the traditional view of leadership as holding a position or managing people is no longer enough in today’s environment.
“Modern leadership demands the ability to create clarity, mobilise people around a common purpose, make difficult decisions, adapt to change, and convert strategy into sustainable organisational results,” Mkwende said.
Principal facilitator, co-founder and Managing Director of Redpoint Group, Mignon Britton, said the Summit comes at a critical time for Malawi.
Britton noted that public institutions, private companies and development organisations are under pressure to improve productivity, strengthen governance, embrace innovation, develop their people and remain competitive.
She further said the discussions reinforced that leaders must understand not only where their organisations need to go, but also how to mobilise their people to get there.
Key topics during the summit included strategic leadership, organisational transformation, corporate governance, finance, artificial intelligence and AI-driven leadership, communication, high-performance cultures, innovation, decision-making and organisational resilience.
The platform brought together executives, senior managers, decision-makers and professionals from diverse sectors across Malawi and the region.
