Minister of Tourism Vera Kamtukule says peace is a critical component in fostering the growth of the tourism industry.
The minister was speaking during the 2024 world tourism day celebrations in Lilongwe where she said there is need for every patriotic citizen to preach peace to the world for more people to come and tour the country.
During the celebrations the minister also awarded students who emerged winners in the poetry challenge where they wrote outstanding poetry pieces that emerged successful in their educational divisions with a K750,000 voucher and number one to number three have been considered to go for a tour with the minister.
Speaking after receiving the award Tawonga Nyirenda a student at Nkhamenya girls secondary school whose poem was selected number one said her success is due to her natural love for the country which she says helped her to put together a poetry peace that brought about the win.
This year’s world tourism day focused on a theme “Tourism and Peace,” which highlighted the connection between tourism and global peace.
