National Food Reserve Agency (NFRA) awaits the results of its board of trustees meeting in a fortnight to determine the direction of maize procurement.
Denis Kalekeni, NFRA’s Board Chairperson, revealed this to MBC Digital, which he says will also see them considering the prevailing farm gate prices.
In the 2024/25 National Budget which is pegged at K5.9 trillion, Finance Minister Simplex Chithyola Banda announced that K12 billion has been allocated to NFRA for maize purchasing.
Kalekeni said the agency intends to purchase over 100,000 metric tons of maize to adequately cover the next lean season.
