NCST encourages journalists to champion biotech

National Commission for Science and Technology (NCST) has encouraged journalists in the country to champion and share information on biotechnology to enhance public understanding.

This comes after the commission noted a decline in entries for the Open Forum on Agricultural Biotechnology (OFAB) Media Awards, with submissions falling from 26 last year to 13 this year.

NCST’s Senior Research Science and Technology Officer, Yohane Chimbalamba, said this in Salima during 2024 OFAB award ceremony.

Malawi News Agency’s Lenard Masauli emerged winner in the Print and Online category and he highlighted the crucial role journalists play in promoting biotechnology awareness, which can lead to improved farming practices and economic growth.

In 2023, Malawi Broadcasting Corporation’s Bernard Ndege won the OFAB Awards in the Television category.
