Silver Strikes Ladies have finished the first round of the NBM Women’s Premiership at the summit of the table, unbeaten.
The Lilongwe-based side has accumulated 27 points from nine matches, scoring 28 goals and conceding only five, making them the most formidable team in the league so far.
In their final first-round match played on Sunday at Silver Stadium, Silver Strikes Ladies demolished MK Academy from Mzuzu 7–0. Star forward Deborah Henry was in top form, netting four goals in the 11th, 52nd, 84th, and 88th minutes.
Wezie Mvula added another in the 24th minute, Tiyamike Banda scored an own goal in the 28th minute, while Chikondi Gondwe sealed the rout with a goal in the 57th minute.
Silver Strikes Ladies’ Head Coach, Andrew Chikhosi, said he is pleased with the team’s consistency but added that the journey is still ongoing.
“We are still in the process of building a competitive team. However, I applaud the girls for finding their winning rhythm throughout the first round of the tournament,” Chikhosi said.
Meanwhile, MK Academy Coach, Khumbo Sibale, said the loss does not worry them, as their main goal is talent development rather than results.
“Our focus is not to win but to nurture talent. We are proud that some of our players are now featuring for big teams across the country,” Sibale said.
At the close of the first round, Silver Strikes Ladies lead the standings with 27 points, followed by Ascent Soccer Academy on 20 points, MDF Lioness in third with 15 points, and FCB Nyasa Big Bullets Women and Mighty Wanderers Queens both tied on 14 points.
Kukoma Ntopwa Women sit sixth with 13 points, Civo Service Women seventh with 10, while MK Academy Women and Moyale Sisters both have 4 points, and Topic Academy anchors the table with 2 points.
