MRA donates K60 million to support Cyclone Jude survivors

The Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) has donated K60 million to the Department of Disaster Management Affairs (DoDMA) to assist communities affected by Cyclone Jude.

Speaking at Bingu International Convention Centre (BICC) in Lilongwe, MRA Commissioner General, Daniel Daka, emphasised that the donation aligns with the organisation’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) policy. He noted that supporting communities during disasters is a crucial aspect of the policy.

“The recent cyclone left many families homeless and in urgent need of basic supplies, compelling us to take action. This contribution reflects MRA’s commitment to social responsibility and its role as a responsible corporate citizen,” said Daka.

He further explained that the funds were drawn from MRA’s budget, which includes a dedicated allocation for CSR activities. He also reassured the public that such interventions are a regular part of MRA’s efforts to support Malawians in times of crisis.

Director of Preparedness and Recovery at DoDMA, Reverend Moses Chimphepo, expressed gratitude for the donation. He said  it would provide essential food and non-food items to affected households.

“This support comes at a critical time when many families are still rebuilding their lives. It will ease their burden by ensuring they have access to necessary supplies,” said Reverend Chimphepo.

The cyclone displaced approximately 7,600 households, affecting between 32,000 and 33,000 people. DoDMA will oversee the distribution of the donated items to ensure they reach those in need.
