Entrepreneurship skills key in youth development — TEVETA

Technical, Entrepreneurial, Vocational and Education Training Authority (TEVETA) has advised youths in the country to change their mindsets regarding skills development if they are to be self-reliant and contribute towards national development.

Senior Programmes Training Specialist at TEVETA, Dennis Molande, said this on Wednesday during the graduation of students who completed their studies at Northern Hospitality Training Institute in Mzuzu.

Molande said with such trainings youths can employ themselves and create jobs for others.

“These are professional skills that necessitate individuals to execute their duties in various places or even manage their businesses properly,” he added.

Managing Director for Northern Hospitality Training Institute, Benard Nyirongo, echoed similar sentiments citing high demand from the tourism industry.

“It is with no doubt that those who graduate from the institution are performing to the expectations of the companies out there, especially the tourism sector where we are getting demand for more people,” Nyirongo said.

One of the guardians of the students, Jenala Chitete, underscored the importance of encouraging the youth to acquire entrepreneurship and vocational skills, to prevent them from engaging in immoral behaviors.

One of the graduands, Elicy Gondwe, said she has benefited from the training and she can handle hotel management.

300 students graduated at the event but cumulatively, Northern Hospitality Training Institute has produced over 700 graduands since it’s inception in June 2024.
