National Registration Bureau (NRB) has registered 74,127 citizens during the Supplementary Civil Registration exercise, which was carried out from 29 December 2024 to 4 January 2025.
The exercise took place in 13 councils involved in Phase 1 of the Malawi Electoral Commission Voter Registration exercise.
A statement signed by NRB’s Principal Secretary, Mak Sambo, states that of the 74,127 newly registered citizens, 37,131 are males and 36,996 are females.
The statement further says 51,526 of these individuals will have reached the voting age of 18 or above by September 16, 2025, making them eligible to vote in the upcoming elections
According to NRB, Balaka has registered 5,579 citizens, Chiradzulu 5,638, Chitipa 1,504, Dedza 7,780, Karonga 6,278, Machinga 14,313, Mzuzu City 1,567, Neno 1,963, Nkhotakota 3,220, Ntchisi 1,613, Phalombe 5,157, and Salima 4,745 while Mulanje tops the list as 14,770 citizens have registered.
