Ministry of Lands engages police on amended land laws

Minister of Lands Deus Gumba says his ministry is working with the police to make sure new land laws are enforced properly.

Gumba said this at a meeting in Salima on Tuesday, aimed at helping police officers to understand the new land laws and the Land Information Management System.

Gumba said the government wants to improve land management and reduce disputes nationwide and believes it is essential to engage police officers, as they play a vital role in resolving disputes and enforcing the law.

Commissioner of Police for the Central West Region, Emmanuel Soko, said the knowledge gained will empower officers to effectively enforce the law and maintain peace in matters related to land disputes, land grabbing and other land-related crimes.

The Ministry of Lands has been conducting a series of sensitization meetings with different stakeholders on the Land (Amendment) Act of 2022 and according to Gumba, the ministry will continue to engage various stakeholders to ensure the public understands the new land laws.
