Minister of Mining, Monica Chang’anamuno, has appealed to experts to help Malawi find solutions to the challenges facing the energy sector.
Chang’anamuno made the call in Lilongwe when she opened a three-day Delivery Lab meeting which aims at creating a thriving energy sector.
“It is the wish of President Lazarus Chakwera to see energy poverty eradicated by 2030 and that hospitals, schools and businesses among others have constant access to electricity,” said Chang’anamuno.
Deputy Secretary, Office of President and Cabinet who is also head of the Presidential Delivery Unit, Janet Banda, acknowledged the financial constraints that have slowed the implementation of some goals in the energy sector such as rural electrification.
Banda, however, said the time has come to start relying on other sources of power than the current hydro.
The main delivery Lab Meeting will focus on power generation, transmission, distribution and power sector coordination to address challenges the energy sector has been facing.
