MDF urges female officers to be paratroopers

The Malawi Defence Force (MDF) has urged female soldiers to join the paratroopers to bridge the gender gap within the force.

Commanding Officer of the Parachute Battalion, Lieutenant Colonel Alfred Mkangala, made the call during a graduation ceremony for 95 paratroopers from the MDF and the Zambian Army in Salima.

Mkangala emphasised that paratrooping, though voluntary is within the capabilities of female soldiers and they equally can perform effectively as their male counterparts.
Zambia Army Deputy Director General for Training, Colonel Daniel Kapisha, highlighted the training’s role in strengthening Malawi-Zambia bilateral relations.

None of the 95 graduates, comprising 45 from the MDF and 50 from the Zambia Army and Air Force, were female.
