Principal Accountant for Likoma District Council, Wilson Muziya, has revealed that their budget has moved from K2.7 billion in the 2024/2025 financial year to K3.6 billion in the 2025/2026 Financial Year.
Muziya made the disclosure on Wednesday on the sidelines of a Extra Ordinary Full Council meeting in Likoma District aimed at presenting the 2025/2026 budget estimates in the district.
“The difference is about 43.7 per cent, currently we are at K3.9 billion, so the figures have gone up due to an increase in the number of members of staff and due to an increase in some funded projects,” said Muziya.
He said the increase will help to meet the outlined projects such as Government to Enable Service Delivery, Constituency Development Funds, and District Development Funds adding that it will improve the standards of people’s livelihoods in as far as delivery of services is concerned.
Likoma District Council Chairperson, Barnabus Sambamo, said the council encountered some challenges during the 2024/25 budget such as inconsistent funding saying it affected service delivery to the community.
He then asked council members to continue working in collaboration on the outlined projects for the district.
