Central Region Water Board (CRWB) says the physical progress of the K76 billion Kholongo Multipurpose Dam government is constructing at Kasese in Dowa district is at 34 per cent.
The project, which was launched by President Dr Lazarus Chakwera in March last year, will be completed in February 2026.
Parliamentary Committee on Natural Resources, led by its Chairperson Werani Chilenga, is visiting the site to appreciate the progress of the project.
Among others, Kholongo Dam will have a 25 billion litre water holding reservoir, 40 million litres water treatment plant and 19 million litres water storage capacity.
CRWB says the Dam will be a source of water for domestic consumption, irrigation and fish farming and will benefit over 191,000 beneficiaries, ensuring 24-hour water supply to over 140,000 people in Mponela, Madisi and other areas and improving the livelihoods of over 4,400 farming households.
