An organisation called Fambauone Youth Organisation (FOYO) has conducted a two-day training aimed at empowering the youth in Chikwawa District on Climate Change.
Programmes Manager at FOYO, David Samikwa, highlighted that the initiative, supported by the Disability Rights Fund (DRF), is aimed at tackling climate change and to enhance inclusivity, considering the increased vulnerabilities of persons with disabilities during natural disasters.
He underscored the necessity for inclusive strategies in disaster preparedness and response.
“We are training young climate change agents who will serve as trainers of trainers to disseminate vital information about climate change within their communities,” Samikwa added.
Chikwawa District Youth Officer, McNeal Shire, echoed similar sentiments.
“FOYO’s project aligns with our efforts to mobilize young people to take proactive roles in climate resilience,” Shire added.
One of the participants, Madalitso Ephraim Banda, said the training was essential.
“Climate change affects everyone, regardless of gender or status so we all have a role to play in mitigating these effects,” said Banda.
The training drilled 15 youths picked from the district.
