As the world celebrates International Chess Day, Dadaz Chess Academy has called for more investment in chess to advance the sport.
Founder of the academy and former Chess Association of Malawi president, Susan Namangale, made the call during a day long youth chess tournament organised to celebrate the International Chess Day — which is celebrated annually on July 20.
Namangale said chess helps in critical thinking and there is a need to nurture it from grassroot level to shape future leaders.
“As a country, we need great thinkers to excel in different aspects hence the need to invest more in these youths and its a collective responsibility,” she said.
One of the parents and former national chess champion, Mark Chikoko, who graced the tournament, underscored the significance of the sport and urged parents to encourage their children to join chess clubs, saying it is a great tool for education.
