Malawi to benefit from €5.5 bn Italian funding to Africa

Malawi’s Ambassador to Italy, Dr Naomi Ngwira says Malawi is poised to benefit from a €5.5 billion (approximately K6 trillion) funding initiative from the Italian Government, aimed at supporting selected African countries.

Dr Ngwira made the statement ahead of President Dr Lazarus Chakwera’s visit to Italy, following his audience with the Head of the Catholic Church in Vatican City.

She further disclosed that the Italian Government has also pledged to increase its support for the Community of Sant’Egidio, an organisation engaged in humanitarian activities in Malawi.

During his visit to Italy, President Chakwera is expected to meet with the Head of Sant’Egidio as well as the Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO).
