President Dr Lazarus Chakwera has challenged Malawians to strive for peace and unity in the country.
Dr Chakwera was speaking during the swearing-in ceremony of eight commissioners of the Malawi Peace and Unity Commission at the Kamuzu Palace in Lilongwe.
In his words of counsel to the commissioners, Dr Chakwera said peace is key to achieving the Malawi 2063 and said individuals selected are people of high esteem in society that will help in promoting peace.
In her remarks on behalf of the other commissioners, Commissioner Emma Kaliya, who is also the Executive Director for the Malawi Human Rights Resource Centre (MHRRC) said the commission has come at the right time as Malawi approaches the 2025 Tripartite Elections.
Some of the Commissioners include Sheikh Dr Ali Makalani, Reverand Zacc Kawalala, Bishop Mary Nkosi, Paramount Chief Kyungu, Dr Francis Mkandawire, Simon Munde and Mwandida Theu.
The Commission has also incorporated, the Secretary of Peace and Unity, the Solicitor General and the Secretary for Homeland Security as ex-officials.
