About 100,000 Blantyre residents will benefit from the government’s Social Cash Transfer Programme.
President Dr Lazarus Chakwera made the announcement on Tuesday during the official opening of the International Blantyre Cancer Centre.
This is a special programme targeting poor urban households in order to ease their financial challenges.
According to the Malawi leader, Minister of Finance Simplex Chithyola Banda will within a few days jointly officially launch the programme with representatives from the World Bank.
Under the Social Cash Transfer, poor families are provided with hard cash which is used for buying some basic needs, including food and other necessities.
