Gender Mainstream drill to improve fight against GBV — Yolamu

Inspector General of the Malawi Police Service, Merlyne Yolamu, believes the Gender Mainstreaming Training for Regional Commissioners and Station Officers-in-Charge can play a crucial role in strategies of service towards the fight against Gender Based Violence (GBV) in the country.

Yolamu made the remarks in Lilongwe where she urged officers to take the training serious and put into action the knowledge they have acquired from the training by detecting and investigating cases of GBV.

She said the training will equip the officers with knowledge and strategical expertise in handling issues concerning GBV which will in turn help in shaping the officers’ understanding of the vice.

Deputy Commissioner for the Eastern Region, Gladson Chipumphula, said the training has been organised at a crucial time when the country is facing a large number incidents of violence against women in politics.

Chipumphula added that the training will assists his fellow officers to handle such cases efficiently.

The training was organised in conjunction with Ministry of Gender.

One of the facilitators from the ministry, Goodson Jumbe, said they facilitated the drill after observing a knowledge gap on how various officers of the police service handle cases of GBV from both Men and Women.
