Umhlangano in September

Maseko Ngoni Cultural Festival Celebrations, Umhlangano, is scheduled to take place this year from September 4th to 6th after being postponed last year.

Secretary General of the Maseko Ngoni Heritage Trust and Chairperson of the Fundraising Committee, Kandi Padambo, said the decision to postpone the event was made in honour of notable figures who passed away in 2024, including former vice president, late Dr. Saulos Chilima and renowned artist Lucius Banda.

“We did not hold the function, which is annual, in 2024, in honour of our fallen colleagues. So, this year, we are really prepared to make this Umhlangano unique, in the sense that we must make up for the year that we did not hold it, which is 2024,” Padambo explained.

He highlighted that the event will not only feature traditional dances and food but also modern talents of Maseko Ngoni.

“We are going to showcase Maseko Ngoni notable artists such as Patience Namadingo, Zeze Kingston, Lulu, and Lawi,” he said.

The event is budgeted at K150 million and Mirriam Mzanda, treasurer of the fundraising committee, said they have lined up several activities to source the funds.
