Department of Climate Change and Meteorological Services (MET) has forecast erratic rainfall in Blantyre this month, with continuous normal to above-normal rainfall expected to begin in January next year.
Deputy Director for MET, Amos Mtonya, made the remarks during the dissemination of the 2024/25 weather forecast for Blantyre.
Mtonya said MET is geared toward providing frequent weather forecasts in cities for proper planning and to saving lives and property.
He said with issues of urbanisation and high density, many people and property are affected in the cities during weather-related disasters.
The meeting brought together MET, DoDMA and Blantyre City Council officials among other attendees who shared notes on disaster preparedness.
