COURT SENTENCES RHINO POACHER 8 YEARS IHL

The Liwonde Magistrate Court has sentenced Robert Phiri to eight years imprisonment with hard labour for being found in possession of a rhino horn.

Phiri was convicted on two counts of being found in possession of illegal listed species and dealing in the government-protected trophy.

Magistrate Muhammad Chande said the sentence is meant to deter other would-be offenders.

Senior Parks and Wildlife Assistant at Liwonde National Park, Lawrence Munro, said African Parks is satisfied with the sentence.
