LWB targets better water services with new strategic plan

The Lilongwe Water Board (LWB) says it aims to enhance its service delivery for the benefit of customers through a series of new initiatives outlined in its 2025–2030 Strategic Plan.

During a customer engagement symposium held in Lilongwe, LWB Chairperson Inkosi Mbelwa V said the board is committed to delivering high-quality water supply and services to ensure customer satisfaction.

“We are focused on meeting the expectations of our customers and ensuring they are satisfied with the services we provide,” he said.

Director of Water Supply Services in the Ministry of Water and Sanitation, Prince Mleta, commended the LWB for its continued efforts.

“LWB’s continued investment shows strong commitment to quality service delivery,” said Mleta.

In one of the presentations, LWB Chief Executive Officer, Silli Mbewe, said the board is working at full capacity to meet the daily water demand of Lilongwe’s 1.2 million residents, who collectively require 125 million litres per day.

“Meeting the daily demand of 125 million litres is becoming more challenging as the city grows,”  observed Mbewe, noting that rapid urbanisation continues to place pressure on the city’s water infrastructure.

To address these challenges, the LWB is implementing several strategic water supply projects aimed at strengthening water security, enhancing service delivery, and building resilience to climate-related shocks.

Among other initiatives, the board announced plans to launch a bottled water venture and introduce a mobile application to allow customers to conveniently access its services.
